Waste Bricks, Mycelium is not a material; 2022 - 2025
Various waste substrates assembled by pleurotus mycelium
Myco-fabrication harnesses the growth of mycelium to cultivate new bio-circular materials in the hope of replacing harmful existing ones. By using waste as a resource and growth as a process, it can enable self-assembled, regenerative, and locally rooted fabrication.
In this process, mycelium acts as a natural binder: its network of hyphae feeds on waste substrates - such as wood chips, coffee grounds, paper, fabrics, or cardboard - and fuses them into a solid once dried.
The Waste Bricks explore locally sourced debris combined with mycelium. The aim is to test how different substrates influence the resulting material properties.
