Mycelial Patterns; 2024 - ongoing
Aléa’s research with mycelium and textiles goes beyond form and texture, exploring the organism’s ability to transform or degrade certain dyes. Working with deadstock fabrics, we give these materials new life and aesthetics through a directed subtractive process, resulting in unique and unexpected patterns formed by the traces of mycelial growth. This research introduces a novel way of engaging with color through the agency of mycelium while opening new pathways for textile recycling.
